BIAKA temporally suspends studies to fight coronavirus

BIAKA University suspends studies in all its schools till further notice following the outbreak of coronavirus in the country. The decision was made public through a communiqué issued by the Vice-Chancellor of the University Francisca Hongla epse BIAKA Du Essex (Hon) on March 18th, 2020

The move from the Buea-based University comes barely 24 hours after government rollout a series of measures to fight the pandemic including suspension of schools (from nursery schools to universities) across the national territory.

Hard work acknowledged!

Cameroon’s Minister of Higher education Fame Ndongo Jacques salutes Dr. Mrs. Francisca Hongla Biaka , Chair and Vice Chancellor of Biaka University Institute Of Buea for her award of ‘Honoris Causa Doctorate’ by the University Of Essex in the United Kingdom.

This award honours the chair of BUIB for her exceptional contributions in the academic milieu through the training of youths in Health Sciences and Management Sciences who are contributors to the Health and Business sectors at both the international and national levels.

This recognition was observed recently in Yaounde at an event during which members of the higher education sector and other dignitaries extended best wishes to the Minister of Higher Education for the year 2020.  

BUIB at the 2020 National Maritime and Port Days

‘’Great job you are doing out there. We are impressed and may you continue the good works’’. These words were echoed by the Cameroon’s Minister of Transport M. Jean Ernest Massena Ngalle Bibehe as he visited the exhibition stand of Biaka University Institute of Buea during the third edition of the National Maritime and Port Days. The three day event which took place in Limbe from the 14th to the 16th of January 2020 under the theme ‘’the quality of service, guarantor of competitiveness in Cameroonian ports’’ saw the participation of BUIB as an institution fostering the training of young and talented men and women in the field of logistics and supply chain management – an area which is becoming highly inevitable in the success of any growing economy.

Participating at the event, Masters Students of BUIB benefited from presentations by the Ministry of Transport, the International Maritime Organisation (IMO), the Port Authority of Kribi (PAK), and the Port Authority of Douala (PAD) among others.  These presentations centred on improving the quality of services in Cameroonian ports as a means to boost competitiveness and build sustainable consolidation in the growth of Cameroon’s economy.

The Maritime and Port Days organized by the National Port Authority, is a platform for exchange between stakeholders of the maritime port sector, with a view to improving the contribution of this sector in the acceleration of the growth of the Cameroon economy.

The joy of success: graduates set for the job market.

It was another memorable day in the life of Biaka University Institute of Buea as 660 students transitioned to graduates found worthy in academics and character to face the job market. This was during the 2019 graduation ceremony of the 19th batch of students from the Institution which has been in existence since 1998. The smiles on the faces of these graduates on November 8th 2019, could only tell of the beauty that lies in hard work.

After burning the mid night candles and overcoming the challenges of recent times amidst the crisis affecting the North West and South West Regions of Cameroon, these students finally turned another page in their career and promised to uphold the values of BUIB wherever they find themselves.

Addressing the graduates at this memorable event, communication specialist; Dr. Che Tita in his capacity as Keynote speaker at the event, prescribed amongst others self dignity as paramount to these graduates as they enter another chapter of life.

The Vice Chancellor Dr. Francisca Hongla Biaka while congratulating the students for their excellent performance, reassured stakeholders of the institution’s commitment in providing quality education to its students.

It is worth mentioning that four best overall students at the Higher National Diploma (HND) examinations in Cameroon emerged from BUIB in the following fields: Pharmacy Technology, Midwifery, nursing

Allied health is second best

The ceremony pulled a crowd of dignitaries and stakeholders amongst whom was the representative of the Vice Chancellor of the University of Buea, the representative of the mayor of the Buea municipality, the console general of the Nigerian Consulate for the North West and South West Regions, the Delegate of Health and the Delegate of Education just to mention these few.
