Biaka @ 25; Cultural Day – A Vibrant Celebration of Diversity and Dedication

Wednesday, November 22nd, marked the second day of Biaka University Institute of Buea’s 25th-anniversary celebrations, and it was a day dedicated to embracing and showcasing cultural diversity. Faculty and students adorned themselves in a stunning array of cultural outfits, transforming the campus into a colorful tapestry of traditions.

 

The highlight of the day was the commendation of over 70 dedicated staff members by the Vice Chancellor. These individuals were recognized for their unwavering commitment to the growth and success of the institution over the years. The awards ceremony not only celebrated the achievements of the recipients but also underscored the collaborative spirit that has been integral to Biaka’s journey.

The cultural day continued with a myriad of captivating presentations. Students and staff collaborated to present an array of performances, including music, dances, and comedy, each reflecting the rich tapestry of cultures within the university community. Biaka @ 25; Sports Walk – A Spirited Start

Tuesday, November 21st marked the kickoff of the much-anticipated 25th-anniversary celebration of Biaka University Institute in Buea. The day commenced with a vibrant sports walk through the bustling streets of Buea, with the Vice Chancellor and other esteemed officials leading the way. The sight of faculty and students marching in unison showcased the unity and spirit that has defined the institution for a quarter of a century.

Following the invigorating walk, the participants congregated at the Molyko Omnisport Stadium, where an atmosphere of excitement and energy prevailed. A series of stretching exercises and physical activities ensued, reinforcing the university’s commitment to holistic well-being.

The pinnacle of the day was the football finals held between Biaka Staff FC and the Medical Laboratory Students. The game unfolded with intense competition, culminating in a 1-1 tie. The deadlock was ultimately broken in a thrilling penalty shootout, where Biaka Staff FC emerged victorious with a 5-2 score.

The football finals not only showcased the athletic prowess of the university’s staff but also fostered a sense of camaraderie and friendly competition among the diverse members of the Biaka community. As the jubilant celebrations continued, it became evident that the 25th anniversary festivities were off to a resounding start, promising a week filled with memorable events and reflections on Biaka University Institute’s remarkable journey over the past quarter-century.

Biaka University of Buea (BUIB) welcomes Freshmen at the 2023/2024 General Orientation.

The start of the academic year at Biaka University of Buea (BUIB) is a momentous occasion that brings fresh faces to campus and sets the stage for the academic journey ahead. The 2023/2024 academic year began with a warm welcome to newly admitted students through a comprehensive General Orientation Program. Chaired by the Technical Adviser to the Vice Chancellor, the program featured several distinguished speakers, including the Registrar, Directors of the five different schools, the Finance Manager, the Guidance Counselor, and the Student Affairs Office. Furthermore, a guest speaker addressed the crucial topic of mental health, ensuring that students embark on their educational journey with the tools to thrive both academically and personally.

The General Orientation Program was chaired by the Technical Adviser, representative of the Vice Chancellor, a significant figure at BUIB responsible for overseeing various aspects of university operations. Mr. Otto Singe’s presence and guidance served as an assurance to the new students that the university is fully committed to their success and well-being. The program commenced with a warm welcome to the incoming students, setting the tone for an exciting academic year ahead. New students were encouraged to embrace this transformative experience and make the most of the resources and opportunities provided by BUIB as well as an introductory session of Administrative and teaching staff present.

The Registrar of BUIB, Dr. Veronica Ika Vesimih provided an essential overview of administrative procedures, including course registration, academic records, and the academic calendar. Students were given valuable insights into university policies and procedures to ensure a smooth transition into their academic journey.

The Directors of BUIB’s five different schools (SHS, SMS, SAS, SET and SED) addressed students, providing insights into the programs offered, the faculty, and the resources available. This gave students a clear understanding of their specific school’s culture and expectations.

The Finance Manager spoke about matters that are crucial for students’ success. Mr. Chia Rechard discussed tuition fees, payment options, and financial aid opportunities, ensuring that students have access to the necessary financial information to make informed decisions.

The Guidance Counselor shared essential information about academic counseling services and resources available to students. Students were encouraged to seek guidance and support whenever needed to navigate the challenges of university life.

The Student Affairs Office led by Mr. Nemkul Samuel, outlined its role in promoting student well-being, engagement, and extracurricular activities on campus. The importance of balance between academics and co-curricular activities was emphasized.

 

Mr. Tamunjong Amstrong, the Guest Speaker drilled the students on Mental health being a critical aspect of students’ overall well-being. The speaker with expertise in mental health addressed the students, discussing the importance of self-care, stress management, and seeking support when dealing with the pressures of academic life and social life.

The General Orientation Program at Biaka University of Buea for the 2023/2024 academic year was a comprehensive and informative event designed to welcome newly admitted students and set them on a path to success. The participation of key university figures, including the Deputy Vice Chancellors, Technical Adviser, the Registrar, Directors of the five schools, heads of departments, the Finance Manager, the Guidance Counselor, and the Student Affairs Office, ensured that students were well-informed about the university’s policies, programs, and support services.

Additionally, the guest speaker’s discussion on mental health highlighted the university’s commitment to the holistic well-being of its students.
