SVPC Elects Staff Representatives in Accordance with Ministry of Labour and Social Security Decision of September 11, 2023.

In a significant move towards ensuring workplace democracy and employee participation, St. Veronica Polyclinic (SVPC)  recently conducted elections to choose their staff representatives. This decision, made in accordance with the guidelines of the Ministry of Labor and Social Security, is a remarkable step towards promoting the rights and interests of the university’s employees.

Staff representation plays a vital role in modern workplaces, fostering better communication, negotiation, and problem-solving between management and employees. It serves as a channel for employees to voice their concerns, suggestions, and grievances while aiding employers in making informed decisions that affect their workforce.

In an academic institution like Biaka University Institute of Buea (BUIB) which is part of SVPC, staff representatives can advocate for improved working conditions, fair remuneration, professional development opportunities, and an inclusive work environment. The election process began with a Nominations period where staff designated time to nominate candidates who were willing to serve as their representatives. This allowed for a diverse range of candidates from various departments and positions to step forward.
Candidates had the opportunity to campaign and present their ideas and qualifications to their peers. This ensured that staff members were well-informed when making their choices.
Finally, Staff members were today given the chance to vote for their preferred candidates. The election process was conducted in a secure and confidential manner, guaranteeing the integrity of the results.
Once the votes are counted, they will be announced publicly, ensuring transparency and trust in the electoral process.

 

The election of staff representatives at SVPC/BUIB brings forth several advantages not limited to but includes;
