BUIB Graduates First Badge of Master’s Degree Students.

Some 601 students of the Biaka University Institute Of Buea BUIB transitioned to graduates recently as they were found worthy in academics and moral standards to represent the institution in their different specialties as they embrace the next facet of their career.

The 2020 conferring of attestations witnessed the sending out of the   first badge of Master’s students from the School Of Management Sciences in the fields Of Health Care Management and Logistics and Supply Chain Management. The 9 Masters  students who made BUIB a choice of preference celebrated their success in flying colors with the best student Akembom Jim Harris Ntangsi leaving with a GPA of 3.84 on 4 from the program –  Logistics And Supply Chain Management.

The event also saw the completion of 277 students from the higher education degree programs, 208 students from the Higher Education Diploma Programs (HND), 13 students from the employment and vocational training programs and 94 from Public Health Programs.

It is worth noting here that all best students at the Higher National Diploma exams 0f 2020 in the fields of nursing, midwifery, pharmacy technology, health care management, medical laboratory science, medical imaging and technology and Nutrition all emerged from BUIB.

Speaking at the ceremony in the capacity of key note speaker was the Bishop of the Diocese of Buea Mgr. Michael Bibi who captioned his presentation “Where Do We Go from Here without Peace”.

This theme was carefully selected to drive the minds of graduates to be ambassadors of peace as they leave to face the realities of the job market, in a world where peace is often compromised but which remains paramount in living in harmony with one another.

On her part, the Vice Chancellor and Chair of Biaka University Institute of Buea Dr. Mrs Francisca Hongla Biaka congratulated the laureates for their hard work and called on them to keep the flag of BUIB tall where ever they find themselves. She went further to applaud the mentor university – The University of Buea as well as the lecturers of BUIB who worked diligently to see that the success of the students comes to realization.

During the conferring of attestations, cash prizes were awarded to best students in all disciplines within the university as a sign of appreciation for a job well done.

The 2020 graduation ceremony took place at the University’s grounds on Friday January 22nd 2021.

1,205 Students Say Yes to BUIB’s Rules and Regulations

“The true bone of education is intelligence and character”.; Guest speaker prof. Margarat N. Endeley making reference to  Martin Luther Kings, challenged some 1,205 students to study for “now is the right time” she said.

This remark was made while delivering an academic discourse at the 2020 matriculation and induction ceremony of Biaka University Institute of Buea which took place at the university’s campus this 11th day of December 2020.

Speaking on the theme “Education within the COVID 19 Pandemic: Opportunities, Challenges and Redolence” Professor Margaret N. Endeley- Vice Dean in charge of student’s affairs at the University of Buea called on matriculating students to embrace the new pedagogic approach characterized by online teaching and learning, sense of personal safety, discipline and a change of mindset amidst the COVID 19 pandemic and the Anglophone crisis.  Highlighting these factors which continue to be a threat to education, the guest speaker challenged these students to build a different mindset and make use of the opportunity they have to study for success she reiterated, does not come in a platter of Gold.

Raising up their hands as a sign of acceptance to abide to the rules and regulations of the institution and to be fully committed to their studies, the Vice Chancellor of BUIB Dr Mrs. Francisca Hongla Biaka formally admitted these 1,205 deserving and qualified students into BUIB. Welcoming them to the university with the “Audacity to Be Different,” the Vice Chancellor invited them to take studies as a priority for that is the major reason for being part of the BUIB family.

The 2020 matriculation and induction ceremony which started with an ecumenical service, also witnessed the official installation of class delegates whose role is to work in synergy with management to ensure student’s satisfaction and discipline during their stay at the university.

 

BUIB Reaches Out To Diabetes Patients

The 2020 Global Week for action on None Communicable Diseases ( NCDs) was observed recently from September 7th to  11th 2020 in rural areas of the Limbe Health District in the South West Region of Cameroon. Activities aimed at empowering nurses to care for diabetes patients in rural areas of the Limbe health district as well as transporting patients from these rural areas to urban diabetes centres where they can receive specialist care.

Funded by World Diabetes Foundation (WDF) and Biaka University Institute of Buea (BUIB), the Health Research Foundation (HRF) Buea, in collaboration with Biaka University Institute of Buea (BUIB) have successfully trained 52 nurses to manage patients living with diabetes.

It is worth noting that, according to the 2019 International Diabetes Federation (IDF) atlas, the rural prevalence of diabetes In Cameroon has been estimated to be between   7% – 10.5% in French speaking regions and 3.8 – 4.9 in the south west English speaking region. In 2020, Leke and colleagues estimated that almost 68% of persons living with diabetes in the rural South West Region are unaware of their status.

These findings support reasons for the fight against diabetes especially in rural areas of Cameroon. Holding under the caption “We Keep Our Eyes Fixed on Diabetes- the Silent Killer in Rural Cameroon” this initiative will go a long way to curb the number of deaths in Cameroon as a result of diabetes.

BUIB Rounds Up Academic Year 2019-2020

Students of Biaka University Institute of Buea (BUIB) are currently rounding up with the academic year 2019/2020 as they take on the National examinations and the second semester examinations at all levels necessary.  The second semester examination which took off on the 28th of July 2020 at the university’s campus is a major part of their academic journey, to qualify them as academically fit to be awarded degrees at the end of their stay at BUIB.

While the HND final year students are taking the Higher National Examinations, the BSc. Final year students are engaged in project defense; all to make them eligible for valediction come November 2020.

Described as a year of trial by both lecturers and students, with the advent of the novel COVID-19 pandemic which introduced health challenges and greatly disrupted the academic calendar of the country, these students congratulate themselves , their lecturers as well as management for getting to this point of completion.

They have expressed gratitude to the management for maintaining a COVID- 19 free environment throughout their studies.

It is worth noting that during this period of the Coronavirus pandemic, the management provided all its students and lecturers with protective face masks and hand sanitizers, ensures the availability of running water and soap daily on campus   and equally disinfects the entire campus weekly for the health safety of its users.

As the 2019/2020 school year closes its doors, the institution looks forward to a vibrant 2020/2021 academic year as it launches new programs including the Higher National Diploma -HND in the School of Management Sciences and a one year Top-Up Msc. Program for holders of all professional master’s program including MBA, Masters I, DEA, DIPET II, DIPES II etc in the School Of Management Sciences.

Biaka University Institute of Buea currently runs 36 post graduate programs in the School of Management Sciences and the School of Health Sciences and also runs undergraduate programs in these schools as well as in the School of Education.
