Nigerian Consul General Strengthens Diplomatic Ties During Official Visit to Biaka University Institute of Buea

In a visit marked by cultural warmth and institutional pride, the Nigerian Consul General to Buea, Ambassador Taofik Obasanjo Coker, on Wednesday, led a six-man delegation to the Biaka University Institute of Buea (BUIB). The official visit was aimed at reinforcing diplomatic ties between Nigeria and Cameroon, while also assessing the welfare and academic progress of Nigerian students studying at the institution.

The Consul General and his entourage were greeted upon arrival by the university’s top management and members of the Biaka Nigerian Students Association, who were assembled at the university’s main entrance. A wave of handshakes, smiles, and warm pleasantries set the tone for a memorable day. The ambassador expressed delight at the cheerful reception and acknowledged the visible presence of Nigerian students as a reflection of the strong bond between both countries.

As part of the welcome ceremony, the BUIB choir performed the national anthems of Cameroon and Nigeria with poise and harmony, symbolizing unity and shared values between the two nations. Following the two national anthems, the choir also beautifully rendered the Biaka University anthem, further showcasing the pride, identity, and institutional spirit of BUIB.

The Consul General and his team were then led to the Office of the Vice Chancellor, where initial introductions were made, and formalities exchanged. This stop provided an opportunity for the two teams to connect on a personal level and lay the groundwork for the more structured session that would follow.

Next, the delegation, accompanied by members of BUIB’s administration and Biaka Hospital leadership, embarked on a guided tour of the university’s and hospital’s facilities. At Biaka Hospital, the team was introduced to the institution’s modern diagnostic and treatment units, including its recently acquired AI-powered full-body scan machine capable of running over 128 diagnoses within minutes. The delegation also visited classrooms, simulation labs, and administrative blocks, all of which reflected BUIB’s commitment to delivering high-quality education and healthcare in the region.

At the end the tour, all parties converged at the St. Gabriel’s Conference Room for a high-level meeting. The session began with a welcome address by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Mrs. Francisca Hongla Biaka, who expressed deep appreciation for the visit. She described the moment as a reaffirmation of the university’s vision to be globally connected while locally impactful. She then introduced members of her team.

Prof. Epah George, Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, gave a detailed overview of the university’s academic strength, innovation, and student success. He emphasized the growth of BUIB’s academic programs, research activities, and quality assurance systems that ensure students receive an education of international relevance.

Mr. Otto Singe, head of International admissions, spoke passionately about the strong relationship between BUIB and Nigeria. He highlighted the excellent performance, integration, and contributions of Nigerian students across various academic disciplines. He also noted that BUIB has established admission offices in Nigeria to make it easier for prospective Nigerian students to access information and enroll. This, he said, is a demonstration of the institution’s dedication to cross-border academic collaboration and student convenience.

In his address, Ambassador Taofik Obasanjo Coker introduced members of his delegation and expressed sincere appreciation for the warm reception. He praised the university’s leadership for its foresight, resilience, and excellence in both education and health services. “Biaka University stands as a beacon of quality in the region,” he stated. The ambassador further stressed the importance of sustaining the historical, educational, and diplomatic bond between Nigeria and Cameroon, affirming that “Cameroon and Nigeria will continue to share a special bond, especially through institutions like BUIB.”

The session concluded with a symbolic exchange of gifts between the Vice Chancellor and the Consul General, representing a gesture of mutual respect and appreciation. A family photograph of both delegations was then taken to commemorate the day. The visit was officially rounded off with the signing of the university’s guest book, marking the moment as both diplomatic and historic.

The visit stands as a testament to BUIB’s growing international footprint and commitment to fostering cross-border collaborations that enhance academic and cultural enrichment.
