Best Nursing Training Institution in Africa (2025)

A Historic Honour for BUIB! (May 2025)

On May 20, 2025, during the National Day celebrations in Buea, our beloved Vice Chancellor, Dr. Mrs. Francisca Hongla Biaka, was elevated to the dignity of Grand Officer of the Order of Valour, one of the highest civilian honours in the Republic of Cameroon. This prestigious award was conferred by the Governor of the South West Region on behalf of the President of the Republic.

This honour recognizes her exceptional contributions to the fields of education, healthcare, and community development. Under her visionary leadership:

  • ✅ BUIB has grown into a national leader in professional training, especially in health sciences.

  • Biaka Hospital has remained a model of compassionate and quality medical care for the people of Cameroon and beyond.

Recognition from the U.S. Embassy (2024)

In October 2024, BUIB received a special visit from officials of the United States Embassy in Yaoundé. During the visit, the embassy praised BUIB for its world-class facilities, outstanding academic programs, and its leadership in health education.

They also celebrated the fact that BUIB is the first private institution in the South West Region to host a Fulbright Scholar, and one of the few institutions with full access to the U.S. e-Library platform. These partnerships reflect BUIB’s growing global reputation and commitment to academic excellence.

This recognition from a key international partner confirmed that our programs meet global education standards and that BUIB is contributing meaningfully to the international academic community. It also opened new doors for collaboration, research, and innovation.

25th Anniversary Celebration – Silver Jubilee (2023)

In 2023, Biaka University Institute of Buea marked a major milestone, 25 years of service to education and healthcare. The Silver Jubilee celebration was a powerful moment to reflect on how far the university had come and where it is heading next.

Over 1,200 students graduated during this celebration, including the very first Master’s degree graduates from BUIB. The event was attended by high-level officials, international guests, proud families, and academic partners. It was not just a celebration, it was proof of the institution’s steady growth and strong foundation.

Founded in 1998, BUIB has evolved from a healthcare training center into a respected university with a strong national and regional presence. The 25th anniversary was a celebration of resilience, leadership, innovation, and community service.

Top Performance in National HND Exams (2022)

In 2022, the Ministry of Higher Education recognized BUIB as the best-performing private university in the Higher National Diploma (HND) exams. Our students ranked highest nationwide in a wide range of fields including Nursing, Midwifery, Pharmacy Technology, and Medical Laboratory Science.

This recognition was based on real, measurable results, students passing with excellent grades and showing deep understanding of both theory and practice. It also demonstrated the dedication of our teaching staff, the strength of our academic curriculum, and the effectiveness of our student support services.
